Delhi, India – The U.S. Trade and Development Agency today announced its growing commitment to smart cities in India by funding a feasibility study to support the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ National Urban Innovation Stack – a cutting-edge smart city tool to drive innovation, data-driven governance and capacity building across more than 100 Indian smart cities.
“This project will provide city managers across India with the data and information they need to achieve their truly innovative smart city objectives,” said Todd Abrajano, Chief Operating Officer and Head of Agency. “This is another example of how USTDA’s projects and people can transform millions of lives through the application of cutting-edge technology.”
The project, which was developed in partnership with the World Bank, will support India’s goals of inclusive and sustainable urban development through a consortium of digital platforms, including e-governance applications, smart payments and training modules for its government workforce.
“The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi is pleased to continue our collaboration with India’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs,” said U.S. Ambassador to India Kenneth I. Juster. “This grant in support of the National Urban Innovation Project will provide our Indian partners access to a broad range of U.S. Government resources and world-class technologies.”

This project also supports the objectives of USTDA’s recently launched Global Infrastructure Resilience Initiative as it helps India’s urban areas deploy public health data to facilitate disaster and pandemic planning, train and prepare for crises, and implement remote work services and strategies to enhance the capabilities of essential services.
