Arlington, VA – The U.S. Trade and Development Agency is advancing trusted, U.S.-aligned digital infrastructure in Colombia to strengthen connectivity and secure data storage. Today, USTDA announced an agreement with the Atlántico Governor’s Office to fund technical assistance for a hyperscale data center and fiber optic broadband network in the Department of Atlántico, Colombia. The assistance will position U.S. firms to deliver advanced technology to the project, reinforcing American leadership in cloud computing and AI infrastructure while deepening a strategic economic partnership with Colombia.
“This project ensures that as Colombia builds the digital backbone of its future, it does so on a foundation of trusted, secure technology,” said Thomas R. Hardy, USTDA’s Deputy Director. “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to a strong and prosperous Western Hemisphere, where U.S. innovation and Colombian ambition advance together.”
The USTDA-funded study will assess the project’s technical and financial viability, including potential site locations, energy capacity, and land cost, helping to mobilize the financing needed for implementation. The activity will generate opportunities to deploy U.S.-made advanced computing systems, network connectivity solutions, and critical data center equipment, advancing U.S. exports of proven technology and expertise, while protecting systems against malign influence and manipulation.

The enhanced digital infrastructure aims to sharply reduce latency and transmission costs while meeting the region’s rapidly growing demand for cloud computing services. It would also enable broader deployment of AI-powered services, support the Atlántico Governor’s Office’s own e-government initiatives, and reinforce Colombia’s standing as a regional leader in digital transformation.
