Arlington, VA – Today, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency signed a technical assistance grant agreement with the King Hussein Cancer Foundation. This partnership aims to support the enhancement of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes in Jordan through the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) at the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) in Amman.
“Artificial intelligence is transforming the capabilities of our critical infrastructure. We are inspired by its application to cancer diagnosis and treatment and are delighted to partner with the King Hussein Cancer Center to deliver on one of Jordan’s healthcare priorities,” said Enoh T. Ebong, USTDA’s Director. “This project will offer opportunities for U.S. industry to supply technologies that will make a difference for families in Jordan and across the region.”
KHCC, under the leadership of its Chairperson, HRH Princess Ghida Talal, is internationally recognized as a leading cancer treatment center, providing advanced and comprehensive care for cancer patients of all ages. Expanding the use of AI will help reduce administrative burdens, support clinical decision-making, provide personalized medicine and improved patient experience, and enhance KHCC’s research capabilities.
Mrs. Nisreen Qatamish, Director General of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation said, “We appreciate the support provided by USTDA to improve the level of diagnostic services for patients at KHCC. This support will bolster the efforts of our recently established Office of Artificial Intelligence and Information Innovations, which aims to combine doctors’ expertise with modern AI solutions to achieve the most accurate results in diagnosing and treating patients.”
USTDA’s grant will fund pilot projects for patient management, breast cancer diagnostics and clinical trials screenings, with the aim of improving patient outcomes and survival rates by increasing the number of patients diagnosed and treated at earlier stages, leading to better patient outcomes and survival rates.
“USTDA has been an important partner in Jordan during the past three decades, supporting projects in many priority sectors,” said H.E. Zeina Toukan, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation. “This support will assist in upgrading KHCC as a regional health center of excellence and integrate artificial intelligence technology to serve targeted patients in a better manner. We are keen to build on this partnership and expand avenues of cooperation with USTDA in the future.”
“For decades, the United States has been proud to work with Jordan to improve healthcare for the Jordanian people. We welcome USTDA’s work with Jordanian partners in using technologies that facilitate access to life-saving treatments and improve the care and treatment of patients across the country,” said U.S. Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Yael Lempert.
