South Africa: City of Cape Town Advanced Metering Infrastructure and Reading System for Water – Planning, Design and Implementation Management

Background

The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Department is proposing the use of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). This tender calls for system evaluation, implementation planning, and subsequent project management services. The initial system and technology evaluation will yield business case recommendations for implementing an AMI system in the Cape Town water service area, an implementation plan, and, if the implementation is approved by the City, thereafter provide project management and technical support to City staff through the acquisition and installation of an operational AMI system. The City anticipates using a specialized single Consultant/Project Manager approach to project delivery.

USTDA is funding a feasibility study to support the City to utilize technology to strengthen its water resources management. USTDA’s study is supporting the City to assess the viability of new ICT investments that would allow for field data collection, near real-time monitoring and operations support.
