U.S.-South Africa Workshop: Energy Storage Standards, Conformance and Technology
Date: February 28, 2017
Locations: Johannesburg, South Africa

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency and the South African Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) are pleased to host the U.S.-South Africa Workshop on Energy Storage Standards, Conformance and Technology. Energy storage supports the output of renewable energy resources by increasing the flexibility of the electrical grid and helping to incorporate renewable energies into the country’s energy mix. If deployed effectively, energy storage can allow off-grid energy to become a reliable and cost-effective option in South Africa.

This workshop will feature insights on the current state of play by South African experts, including IDC which serves as the chair of the South African Energy Storage Steering Committee. Presentations on relevant standards, conformance and technology will be given by U.S. experts from the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Underwriters Laboratory (UL). The event will also foster discussion of cross-cutting issues and opportunities for U.S. – South Africa cooperation.

The workshop is sponsored by USTDA’s U.S.-Africa Clean Energy Standards Program, which is coordinated by the American National Standards Institute in partnership with Power Africa. Learn more at www.standardsportal.org/us-africacesp.
