Connecting leading U.S. solutions to infrastructure projects overseas represents the heart of USTDA’s mission, and when an industry partner is recognized for their innovation, the Agency celebrates alongside them. USTDA is proud to congratulate Primus Power for being named to the 2018 Global Cleantech 100 list.

In September 2017, USTDA awarded a grant to Solafrica Energy (Pty) Ltd., a developer of utility-scale solar power plants in South Africa, to support a pilot project for an energy storage system. USTDA is partnering on the pilot with Primus Power Corporation (Hayward, CA), which is providing cutting-edge technologies to the project that will advance energy storage capabilities across South Africa.

By developing an implementation plan for deploying energy storage, the pilot project will help to increase the electric grid capacity in South Africa, support further integration of renewable energy resources, and offset the use of diesel fuel for peaking power and backup power generation.

This pilot is just one of USTDA’s many ongoing projects across sub-Saharan Africa, demonstrating the Agency’s commitment to the infrastructure goals of the continent, which is home to three of the ten fasting-growing economies in the world.
