Arlington, VA – The U.S. Trade and Development Agency today announced the opening of its newest overseas presence in Nairobi, Kenya, and the creation of new offices in the Indo-Pacific region. USTDA’s overseas expansion signifies the agency’s commitment to implementing the Administration’s Prosper Africa initiative and Indo-Pacific Strategy

“This announcement not only means additional personnel. It represents a surge of interest around the world for the brand of assistance USTDA provides and the pivotal role our Agency plays implementing the Trump Administration’s top priorities in Africa and Asia,” said Todd Abrajano, USTDA’s Chief Operating Officer and Head of Agency. “Thanks to our cooperation with the Department of State and Commerce, as well as greater resources on the ground, our Agency is better positioned than ever to help U.S. companies compete and ensure that our overseas partners build quality infrastructure utilizing American ingenuity.”

In addition to Nairobi, USTDA now has a presence in three other key African markets: Accra, Ghana; Johannesburg, South Africa; and Lagos, Nigeria. “These are strategic locations from which we can build stronger relationships with our local and regional clients, drive economic growth and develop unique partnership opportunities for U.S. firms,” said Heather Lanigan, USTDA Regional Director for sub-Saharan Africa.

In December 2020, USTDA intends to open an office in Manila, Philippines, joining the Agency’s current Indo-Pacific presence in Bangkok, Thailand; Hanoi, Vietnam; and New Delhi, India. In 2021, the Agency also expects to establish a presence in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Jakarta, Indonesia. Verinda Fike, USTDA’s Regional Director for the Indo-Pacific, said, “Our presence in Manila and across the region will help us better identify and provide financing for the most impactful energy, digital, transportation and other infrastructure projects throughout the Indo-Pacific.”
