ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – In the lead-up to the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue, Director Leocadia I. Zak traveled to Shanghai and Beijing, China this past week with Commerce Secretary Gary Locke to promote the export of U.S. clean energy technologies and services. Supporting the goals of the National Export Initiative, Director Zak worked to find ways USTDA’s program can open China’s market to U.S.-manufactured clean energy technologies as China continues to confront increasing demand for energy.

When Director Zak met with the U.S. – China Energy Cooperation Program in Shanghai, she said that the United States works closely with the private sector as it seeks to access China’s market for clean energy opportunities.

"Exporting clean energy, a priority of the National Export Initiative, will help the United States reach its goal to double its exports over the next five years," said Zak. "The clean energy business development mission provides an opportunity to create green jobs through increased U.S. exports abroad."

In November 2009, President Obama launched USTDA’s U.S.-China Energy Cooperation Program, which leverages private sector resources for clean energy project development in China.

The clean energy business development mission has promoted exports of leading U.S. technologies related to clean energy, energy efficiency and electric energy storage, transmission, and distribution.

Following the clean energy trade mission, Director Zak will remain in Beijing for the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue where she will conclude grant agreements to support U.S. companies efforts to supply China’s market for energy and aviation development.
